ANDREW BORG PLAYS LEVEL PAR IN BELGIAN AMATEUR

07/08/2013

The Belgian International Amateur & Ladies Golf Open Championship was played at Royal Antwerp Golf Club between the 31st July and 3rd August 2013.

Royal Antwerp is a par 72 course and plays over 6600 yards from the back tees. This was Andy’s second try at Royal Antwerp after having failed to make the cut in the same Championship exactly a year ago.

The Belgian Open Championship was based on a four day aggregate medal score with a cut for the best 42 players after the second day. Andy was one of the 96 male players that were accepted to play in this competition – only 27 of whom had a handicap worse than scratch. 39 of the players were from overseas clubs.

The competition was won by Thomas Detry a member of the Royal Golf Club of Belgium with a score of 67-70-66-63 with a 7 stroke lead from second placed Jamie Donaldson – a member of the hosting club. Thomas plays off a handicap of +3.2 and was the sixth best handicap player from those who registered for the tournament.

Andy’s one under par 71 for the course for each of the first two days of the Championship secured him a place for the remaining two days where he mirrored his score from the previous two days albeit on the other side of par and i.e. one over for the course on each day for a 71-71-73-73 to an aggregate 288 and 26th overall placing.
