VAN BEEK's WIN THE GENERATION CUP 2013

A total of 44 players braved the hot weather on Sunday 28th July to descend to the Royal Malta Golf Club to play in the third edition of this tournament sponsored by NESCAFÉ Dolce Gusto. Played as a two player scramble medal strokeplay, this year’s tournament utilised the Modified Scheid system to determine the winning teams.

Another 12 players participated in the concurrent 7-hole competition organised for the very young players. Martin Azzopardi and his son Samuel placed third with 33 strokes (Scheid 21) losing second place on countback to Jean Scerri and his son Nicholas. Team Jacobsen composed of Thomas and his son Alexander placed first with a gross score of 30 (Scheid 18). The other three teams were composed of Klaus Vahnsen who adopted Luke Bianco, Anne Thompson adopting Anna Jacobsen and Christina Van Canal with her daughter Filippa.

In the main tournament the pairs were composed of 2 mother and son; 10 father and son; 3 mother and daughter; 2 father and daughter; 2 grandfather and grandson; 1 uncle and nephew and 2 adopted pairs. Four teams registered a Scheid score of 56 but on countback calculation Francis Bergedahl and her son Chris took second place ahead of team Beck composed of William and his son Nicholas; team Allsopp composed of Michelle and her daughter Mia and uncle and nephew team composed of Ian Wirth and Alex Denaro. The Generation Cup was won by Yvonne Van Beek and her son Quint who returned a gross 65 which was equivalent to a Scheid score of 54.

The prizes for the tournament were presented to the winners by Naum Janakiev (General Manager of NESTLÉ Malta) in the presence of Michelle Allsopp (RMGC Lady Captain) and William Beck (MGA President). Mrs Doreen Balzan and Mr Ray Mountford kindly assisted with the organisation.
