NICOS SEVERIS PASSES AWAY

On 14th October Nicos Severis, the first President of Cyprus Golf Federation (2000-2008), passed away, at the age of 68.

Nicos Severis was born in 1943 and studied Economics at the University of Cambridge. He was a major figure in the economic and social activities of Cyprus and overseas. He was also President of Red Cross society Cyprus- Nicosia Branch and a Senior Advisory Board member of "Hope For Children" UNCRC Policy Center.

He was General Manager of Bank of Cyprus (London) during the period 1971-1974 and member of the Board of Bank of Cyprus. During 1974-1986 he worked at American Express Bank Ltd in the positions of Marketing Director for Europe, Middle East and Africa, General Manager in Belgium, Italy and Luxembourg and Head of Private Banking for Europe, Middle East and Africa. He was General Manager and Director of Investments at Banque Franck in Geneva between 1987-1989, while in 1990 he founded Severis SA, based in Geneva, Switzerland. In 1994 he founded Severis & Athienitis Financial Services Ltd and in 1996 founded the brokerage firm Severis & Athienitis Securities Ltd of which he was Chairman until recently. He was member of the Boards of Directors of several public and private companies in Cyprus and abroad and advisor of a Swiss asset management company.

Nicos Severis was an ardent fan of golf and as one of the founding members of Nicosia Golf Club served on the committee of NGC from 1999 to 2010 as Vice-President. He was the first President of the Cyprus Golf Federation from the Federation's inception in 2000, a position he held until 2008. In his capacity as CGF President, Nicos Severis worked tirelessly in order to put Cyprus on the European golfing map.

The President and Executive Council Members of the Malta Golf Association extend their deepest condolences to his wife Marie and his children and join the Board of Directors of the Cyprus Golf Federation to pay tribute to Nicos’s service to the game of golf.
