10TH TURKISH AMATEUR OPEN

05/09/2011

The 10th Turkish Amateur Open Golf Tournament will be played at the Antalya Golf Club in Antalya Turkey, one of the host courses for the World Amateur Team Championships 2012, between 22nd and 25th September 2011. The 18-hole PGA Sultan Championship Course with challenging narrow fairways and 122 bunkers measures a total of 6411 meters and has a par of 71 for men and 72 for ladies.

Andy Borg and Chris Bergedahl, winner and runner up of the Royal Malta Golf Club 2011 Championship, will be travelling together to participate in this 72-hole stroke play tournament. The strength of this amateur championship is such that 80 of the 84 overseas players registered to play have a handicap of scratch or better.

The MGA welcomed the prospect of the tournament being played on the Antalya course as we are endeavouring to send a team of three players to represent Malta for the first time in above mentioned WATC (Eisenhower Trophy) in 2012. We believe that this should be a very good opportunity for these two players to familiarise themselves with the course and its environs.

Having participated successively in 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009 this would be Malta’s fifth show in the Turkish Open. This year’s participation is being made possible largely due to the generous financial sponsorship from a number of RMGC members. We are very appreciative of this and we are sure so are the players themselves.

Please join us to wish Andy and Chris a safe journey and a positive experience in the tournament. Their progress can be followed via www.turkishopen.org.
