FALDO SERIES 2011 – QUALIFYING ROUND

07/07/2011

Daniel Holland and JJ Micallef will be leaving Malta this Friday to participate in the official qualifying event for the 2011 Faldo Series Grand Final. The qualifying rounds will be held on Tuesday 12th and Wednesday 13th July on the Dunes Course at Costa Navarino in Greece.

Sir Nick Faldo (winner of 3 Open Championships and 3 Masters Tournament) created the Faldo Series in 1996 to help identify and nurture the next generation of champions. The Faldo Series Asia followed in 2006 and over 30 annual tournaments now take place in more than 25 countries throughout the UK, Europe, South America, the Middle East and Asia.

Each year over 5,000 talented golfers worldwide, boys and girls aged 12 to 21, benefit from a unique combination of tournament experience and expert advice, including support and advice from Faldo himself.

The leading players qualify for either the Faldo Series Grand Final in Europe or the Faldo Series Asia Grand Final in China; both R&A World Amateur Golf Ranking events. The European finals will this year be held in September at the Lough Erne Resort in Northern Ireland.

This will be the second experience for these boys in these championships. They played in last year’s edition which was also held at the Dunes Resort with JJ placing 2nd in his age group. Daniel, playing in a lower age group, had placed 13th in what was then his only second familiarity in a major overseas competition. The boys will have the possibility of three practice rounds ahead of the competition as well as individual training sessions with Keith Wood (coach to Sir Nick Faldo and Director of Instruction to Faldo Academies).

The participation of Daniel and JJ (both members of the Royal Malta Golf Club) is being made possible through the kind sponsorship of M Demajo (Wines & Spirits) agents of Veuve Clicquot under the auspices of the Malta Golf Association.
