THE GENERATION CUP

17/06/2011

Further to our announcement of 27th January 2011, the Executive Council of the Malta Golf Association wishes to confirm that this competition will indeed be played on Sunday 3rd July 2011 with a shotgun start of 15:00 hours.

The eligibility criteria and format of competition are being highlighted below.

ELIGIBILITY:

1. At least one of the team players must be an RMGC member of any category (including junior academy).

2. The team players must be related e.g. father/son; mother/daughter; mother/son; grandfather/granddaughter; uncle/neice; guardian/son; mother/son-in-law.

3. An exception will be made for RMGC members under-18 years who have no relatives playing golf. These members will be allowed to ‘adopt’ an RMGC member of their choice for this competition.

FORMAT OF COMPETITION:

1. Each team will consist of two players.

2. Both players can tee off at each hole and then select the best tee shot. The ball’s position is then marked and can be lifted and cleaned.

3. A minimum of SEVEN tee shots per player to be used.

4. The other player retrieves his ball and both players then play their balls from a position within six inches of the marked spot and not nearer the hole. Note! Golf balls can be so placed through the green. In hazards the balls must be dropped unless the players elect to play from outside the hazard with the relative penalty shot.

5. The above method of play is followed until the green is reached.

6. On the green the same method applies. The ball chosen is marked by a putter head length and players putt from the same spot in turn. Each player must mark the ball after putting. Play continues from each chosen position until the ball is holed.

7. The score is the total number of shots from the chosen spots (including the tee shot). Note! If a player putts and misses but then inadvertently knocks the ball into the hole, then that score counts.

8. At the end of the round the total for each hole is added together. The reduction of handicap will be 7/8 of the lower handicap which is subtracted from the total strokes played to give the total net medal score for the round. The winning team will be the one with the lowest medal score.

9. In the event of a tie the R&A suggested procedure for determining such matters in handicap competitions will be adopted.

All other rules of golf apply to the “Ball in Play” In particular please be aware of Rule 14.2. Team members are not allowed to position themselves on or close to an extension of the line of play or the line of putt behind the ball.

PRIZES:

1. Winning and runner-up team.
2. Nearest the pin (on the RMGC 7th hole) for the players with a CONGU handicap.

At the end of the competition, there will be a fun putting competition for junior players without a CONGU handicap. This will be held on the main RMGC practice putting green.
