MALTESE OLYMPIC COMMITTEE ELECTIONS

21/04/2017

We are pleased to announce that Mr William Beck, President of the Malta Golf Association, has been elected as Deputy President on the Executive Committee of the Maltese Olympic Committee for a term of four years.

The nomination was confirmed on Wednesday 19th April with Mr Julian Pace Bonello confirmed as President. The other members appointed are Mr Joseph Cassar (Secretary General), Mr David Azzopardi (Director of Finance), Mr Ivan Balzan (Director of Sports), Mr Paul Sultana, Ms Maria Vella Galea, Dr Kirill Micallef Stafrace, Dr Lucienne Attard, Ms Charlene Attard, Mr Mario Micallef, Ms Marie Therese Cuschieri, and Mr Jonathan Vella.

Golf has been part of the MOC family for some years now. In fact it was possible for the sport to be present in the Mediterranean Games already in 2001. However golf only became a full member of the MOC in 2007 with the founding of the Malta Golf Association through a process that saw the adoption of a proper working constitution and elections. Since then golf was also part of the Games of the Small States of Europe that took part in Iceland in 2015 when Team Malta composed of Andy Borg, JJ Micallef and Danny Holland achieved Silver.

Mr Beck was first elected to the MOC Executive Committee as one of its directors in September 2013 during an EGM to fill the post vacated by Mr Mario Micallef who became the Sports Director.

Mr Beck initial immediate obligation will be to lead a contingent to the Games of the Small States of Europe that will be held in San Marino in the first week of June. A contingent of over 100 individuals will include athletes and their coaches from athletics, archery, basketball, beach volleyball, boules, cycling, judo, shooting, swimming, table tennis, tennis and volleyball.
