ABELES WIN THE GENERATION CUP 2015

The fifth edition of the MGA Generation Cup sponsored by NESCAFÉ Dolce Gusto was played at the Royal Malta Golf Club on Sunday, 15th March 2015. A total of 44 players played in the main tournament whilst another 16 players participated in the concurrent 9-hole competition organised for the very young players. The main competition was played in a Greensomes medal stroke play format with a minimum of six tee shots per player. The smaller competition had a similar format but was played as a Stableford.

Stefan Satariano playing with his son Matti won the 9-holes competition with a score of 15 points on count back from Anne Thompson who adopted Anna Jacobsen. Third place was secured by Colin Jones playing with his son Owain on count back considerations from Sandro Aloisio who adopted Filippo Marchi.

In the main tournament the pairs were composed of 5 mother and son; 8 father and son; 1 mother and daughter; 5 father and daughter; 1 uncle and niece; and 2 adopted pairs.

Last year’s winners Yvonne and Quint van Beek just managed to pip the uncle and niece team of Peter and Tima Satariano by one stroke with a net 65. The tall Russian team of Grigor Khachaturov playing with his son secured second place with a net 63 but this was still a clear 3 shots behind another tall team of Michael Abele who was partnered by his daughter Amber.

The prizes for the tournament were presented to the winners by Naum Janakiev (General Manager at NESTLÉ Malta) in the presence of Alanna Baldacchino (Junior Product Manager at NESTLÉ Malta), Ron Feenan (RMGC Captain), William Beck (MGA President) and more importantly in the company of many fathers, mothers, sons, daughters, grandparents, grandchildren, uncles, aunts, nephews and nieces who came together to compete and to enjoy a glorious Sunday at the Royal Malta Golf Club.
